The taxation authorities in India has made it mandatory for all the taxpayers in the country who earn more than Rs. 5 lakh per annum to file their tax returns online.

Revenue secretary Sumit Bose said, "Income tax returns for the group above Rs. 5 lakh will have to be e-filed. This is a move towards using technology so that the interface between the assessing officer and the assessee is minimised." He was speaking at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.

Global financial giant, Goldman Sachs has upgraded the shares of Indian engineering and construction conglomerate, Larsen & Toubro to "buy" from "neutral".

The investment bank said that upgrade is mainly due to the under-performance by company shares against the broader index and the stability in the flow of revenues during the medium term. It also noted that the government is likely to approve infrastructure projects worth $30 billion in the fiscal year 2013/14.

The HSBC composite index for India was recorded at 54.8 during the month of February at a time when the emerging economies recorded a moderate slowdown.

On the index, any rating above 50 means expansion while that below 50 means contraction. The index measures overall service industry activity in the country. HSBC said that among the largest economies covered in the latest survey, the rating was lower in China, India and Brazil in February but it noted that the growth in India was faster than that in China during the month.

Telecom sector giant, Vodafone India has announced that it is planning to open 16 angel stores across the country solely for serving women to mark the International Women's Day.

The company said in an official statement in Mumbai that the first of its kind Vodafone Angel Store will be completely run and managed by women. These stores will be spread across 13 states and will be present in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Goa, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Shillong, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur, Agra, Mysore, Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Washington, March 6 : A new experiment simulating conditions in deep space has suggested that the complex building blocks of life on Earth could have been created on icy interplanetary dust and then carried to Earth, jump-starting life.

Chemists from the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Hawaii, Manoa, showed that conditions in space are capable of creating complex dipeptides -- linked pairs of amino acids -- that are essential building blocks shared by all living things.

Washington, March 6 : Older adults who play video games report higher levels of emotional well-being, North Carolina State University researchers say.

Researchers asked 140 people aged 63 and older how often they played video games, if at all. The study participants then took a battery of tests to assess their emotional and social well-being. 61 percent of study participants played video games at least occasionally, with 35 percent of participants saying they played at least once per week.
