A 10-year-old girl, who was born without her right arm, received a 3D-printed bionic limb from a student-led non-profit at the University of Central Florida.

Annika Emmert received the new 3D-printed appendage by an actor from her favorite movie franchise ‘Dolphin Tale’.

Actor Cozi Zuehlsdorff surprised her with her new limb during a family vacation to Clearwater Maritime Aquarium in Clearwater, Florida.

Emmert also spent time with Winter the dolphin, who has worn prosthetic tails since getting entangled in a crab trap line at just three months old.

Emmert was born without part of her right forearm. Over the years, she has worn multiple prosthetics. However, they haven't always made for effortless movement or maximum comfort.

Sidestepping the rules has cost a research team from Chinese search engine giant Baidu the international artificial intelligence competition. The team has now been told to sit out of the competition because of rule breach. Baidu was confident about beating Google and Microsoft in the competition, but the chance is not available anymore to the Chinese team.

The test was about the ability of recognizing images through computers. However, it has transpired that Baidu submitted far more tests than the rules allowed. As a result, it was not possible to compare Baidu’s results with others in the competition.

Dave Mackay, Virgin Galactic's chief pilot has opened up about the company's spaceship crash. In the incident in which the company's new spaceship was torn apart in air in mid-air over California, Mackay lost his colleague, Mike Alsbury.

Mackay said that in the incident, he, Mike Alsbury and Peter Siebold were involved. They were testing two airships - the VSS Enterprise SpaceShipTwo and the mothership White Knight Two. A new research has unveiled that parasitic 'vampire' plants could add to the abundance and diversity of surrounding vegetation and animal life.

These are the plants that not only attach on another living plant, but also derive nutrients from them. The researchers studied the impact of the 'vampire plant' on the biodiversity of species-rich, semi-natural grassland by changing the densities of hemi-parasite.

The researchers also compared the plant and invertebrate communities in areas where the parasitic plant, Rhinanthus minor, was removed and left at natural densities or increased in abundance.

Okanagan has declared June as Invasive Species Action Month. Now, the Okanagan Basin Water Board is utilizing this declaration to announce its increased role in the fight against zebra and quagga mussels.

In May, the water board said that it shall not be held liable if zebra and quagga mussels are introduced into the Okanagan.

The board has been continuously taking steps to prevent the invasive species entry into the Okanagan without accompanying measures by provincial government. Utilizing the declaration of June as Invasive Species Action Month, the board wants to strengthen its role in its fight against zebra and quagga mussels.
