Obamacare Models are on Life Support

Earlier, a report of The Washington Post stated that about 50% Obamacare exchanges could face financial struggle in the near future. According to the report, nearly half of the insurance marketplaces that were set up by the states under the United States president’s law have been struggling financially.

The report by The Washington Post came after about $5 billion in federal taxpayer subsidies for call centers, IT vendors and other factors required to support the health insurance entities set up by the government. The feds control about 34 state exchanges, while about 16 states and the District of Columbia have set up their own.

One of the patients, Larry Hardersen, said the threat of prostate cancer has always seemed real to him. Larry said his father had prostate cancer and he lived to be 100. His father’s brother also had this cancer, and he died from it at an earlier age.

A year and half ago, Hardersen went in for a PSA test to detect the disease. A year later, his levels went up, and again three months later they kept going on. So he had a biopsy.

It came back and showed that there was cancer in the prostate. Since then he decided to have the procedure done. Hardersen said the procedure performed by Dr. Craig Block at Mercy Medical Center wasn't a traditional one.

Researchers find traces of gluten in over half of popular probiotics

Researchers at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) have reported that they have found traces of gluten in over half of the popular probiotics they tested.

They performed the tests on 22 top-selling probiotics, and revealed that 12 of them had detectable amounts of gluten.

Patients generally take probiotics for their theoretical effect in promoting intestinal health, though its evidence of benefits is limited to a few clinical situations.

Children with asthma should undergo peanut allergy tests: Study

It has been found in a study that testing for sensitivity to peanuts could help the children suffering from asthma. The study has been conducted on 1,517 children at Mercy Children’s Hospital in Toledo by Dr. Robert Cohn; these were the children treated for respiratory problems.

On Sunday, the study was put forward at the American Thoracic Society’s international conference in Denver. Dr. Cohn is medical director of pulmonary medicine at Dayton’s Children’s Hospital and the lead author of the study.

There was a confirmed diagnosis of asthma in children, however only 11% were aware regarding their peanut allergy. According to researchers, blood tests for peanut allergy were conducted on 665 of the children, and 22% of those children tested positive for peanut sensitivity.

The lawmakers have taken concrete steps to keep health laws of the country in pace with the current health care needs of its residents.

A House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee has recently revised version of the 21st Century Cures Act. The act has been passed with the aim of escalating the speed of medical breakthroughs and cures.

The act was inaugurated by Fred Upton, the chairperson of the House Energy and Commerce Committee together with Diana Degette, a Ranking Member of the Investigations Subcommittee.

According to Upton, such a step has been taken by Congress for the first time in the lawmaking history of America. Before this, Congress has never looked in and identified factors that played key roles to boost the speed of cures in the country.
