Worst economic slowdown has ended in China: USBeijing: China has lived through worst economic slowdown due to its determination to deepen reforms in the world's second largest economy, prominent US economist Stephen Roach said Wednesday.

"I am hopeful that the worst of the slowdown has now passed," said Roach, former chief economist of Morgan Stanley.

Speaking in Beijing during the launch of his new book Unbalanced: The Codependency of America and China, Roach said encouraging breakthroughs have been made in pushing reforms ahead, sate-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Yes Bank Q1 net profit rises 10% on higher interest income

Yes-BankMumbai: Private sector lender Yes Bank on Wednesday said it has reported a 9.6 percent jump in its net profit at Rs 439.5 crore for the first quarter ended June 2014, driven by higher net interest income.

The bank had reported a profit after tax of Rs 400.8 crore in the year ago quarter.

"Profits were higher, driven by a 13 percent increase in net interest income," Yes Bank Chief Financial Officer Rajat Monga told reporters here.

He said the profit would have been higher by around 10 percent in Q1 had it got the similar gains it had realised on account trading in the year ago quarter.

China airline tests Wi-Fi on flight

China-Eastern-AirlinesBeijing: A leading Chinese airline Wednesday tested a programme to allow passengers to use in-flight Wi-Fi, paving the way for the technology's application for the first time in China's booming aviation market.

The satellite-based Wi-Fi service was made available on a flight operated by China Eastern Airlines, the first test of the service on a Chinese commercial flight.

The test service was launched on an Airbus A330 servicing the Shanghai-Beijing route, and the first trial flight took off today morning, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Spice to bring Firefox, Android One phones before Diwali

SpiceNew Delhi: Homegrown handset maker Spice on Wednesday said it will bring the much-awaited Rs 1,500-Firefox and Rs 6,000-Android One smartphones to India before Diwali.

Earlier this year, Mozilla (developer of Firefox web browser) had tied up with Indian firms -- Intex and Spice -- to bring smartphones priced at USD 25 (about Rs 1,500) to India.

Similarly, under the Android One initiative, Google has partnered Spice, Micromax and Karbonn from India to deliver a smartphone under USD 100 (about Rs 6,000).

Both the handsets are expected to fuel further competition in the world's fastest growing smartphone market.
