Mumbai, Jan 1 - A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading flat at 26.30 points or 0.12 percent up in the early morning trade Wednesday.

Good buying was observed in healthcare, capital goods and metal sectors, while selling pressure was seen in IT sector.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 21,222.19 points, was trading at 21,196.98 points in the early session, up 26.30 points or 0.12 percent from previous day's close at 21,170.68 points.

Kolkata, Dec 31 : Home Secretary Anil Goswami Tuesday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior government officials here over the situation in neighbouring Bangladesh and the law and order situation in the state.

"We discussed the law and order situation of the state besides other things," Goswami told media persons.

Goswami said the Banerjee government has sought central funds for some projects. "We have requested the state government to send proposals (for funds)," he added.

London, Dec 31 : Asha Khemka, an India-born educationist in Britain, has been named for the highest British civilian award for women for her services to education.

Khemka, principal and chief executive of West Nottinghamshire College at Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, has been named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire' in the New Year's Honours List for 2014.

Khemka was named for the Order of the British Empire in 2008 and has been running the college since 2006.

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31 : Ramesh Chennithala, president of the Kerala unit of the Congress, will Wednesday be sworn into the cabinet of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, party sources said Tuesday.

The 57-year-old Chennithala, a three-time legislator and a four-time Lok Sabha member, will be administered the oath of office by Governor Nikhil Kumar.

"I abide by the decision of the party high command. It was they who asked me to join the cabinet and I have decided to join," Chennithala told reporters at his home district of Alappuzha Tuesday.
