Chennai: Finland-based Nokia has paid about Rs 250 crore as compensation to employees of its Chennai manufacturing facility, who opted for the voluntary retirement scheme offered by it in May, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister P Thangamani informed the state Assembly today.

"Soon after the Chennai plant was converted into contract manufacturing facility, as it was excluded from the Nokia-Microsoft USD 7.2 billion deal, the operations of the Chennai plant will be based on the supply orders. Because of this reason, the company (Nokia) offered VRS," he said.

New Delhi, July 25 : Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena is based on a politics of hatred and of bullying people, and that both parties were harmful for the country.

London, July 25 : Amazon has reportedly warned of slower sales in the current quarter after it incurred a loss of 126 million dollars in the second quarter.

According to the BBC, Amazon forecast third quarter sales of between 19.7 billion dollars and 21.5 billion dollars, which could mean sales growth of as little as 15 percent - well down on previous quarters.

Shareholders had a sense of relief, as sales were up 23 per cent in the second quarter as per expectations.

Meanwhile, the warning came as a scare for the investors following which, in after hours trading in the US shares slumped by 6 percent.

Mumbai: The rupee on Friday edged up by two paise to end at 60.10 against the American unit on dollar selling by exporters, helping the local currency log its first weekly rise in three.
