Self-identified vampires usually don’t see doctors out of fear of stereotyping

According to a new study, individuals who think about themselves as vampires don't go to see health care providers since they are afraid of stigma, mockery or a diagnosis of a mental illness. The study has been published in the journal Critical Social Work in Canada.

DJ Williams, Idaho State University associate professor of social work said that this is an age of technology, so people are able to choose new, alternate identities to fit the understanding of what they are in a better way.

According to Williams, "We really need to understand some of these new identities and new ways to identify ourselves, and some of these new identities do not fit into stereotypes. Helping professionals of all varieties need more education on these kinds of topics".

Diet with more Processed Foods not good for Health

A novel study has found that consumption of Western diet has been on rise in developing nations. The researchers have affirmed that significant changes have taken place when it comes to nutrition across the world.

David Tilman, professor of Ecology at the University of Minnesota, said they have explored global trends in diet choices and the link between the diets and health. After assessing the details, the researchers have found that with rise in income, people have been choosing those food products that are high in calories.

This is proving taxing for their health and they are becoming more prone to health problems. Tilman said, "We have a whole new group of people who are malnourished because they eat foods that are no good for them, that have no nutritional benefit".

Indoor Tanning on Decline

A research paper published in JAMA Dermatology has unveiled that indoor tanning trend is now on decline in America. The researchers have found a sharp decline in indoor tanning rates among adults. Concerning factor is still there are many who continue to use it.

The research findings are based on the analysis of the data of over 59,000 people from the 2010 to 2013 National Health Interview Survey. Indoor tanning rates among adults have dropped from 5.5% in 2010 to 4.2% in 2013.

Amongst all, the reduction has been seen majorly among the 18-29 years old age group. In this group, the decline has come from 11.3% in 2010 to 8.6% in 2013. Among women, the decline has come from 8.6% in 2010 and 6.5% in 2013. In the case of men, a 2.2% drop in 2010 and 1.7% in 2013.

Heroin Usage on Rise in United States

As per a report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nation is witnessing a rise in heroin use and overdose deaths. The significant increase is especially seen among whites and women.

The CDC report is based on the evaluation of data from 2002 to 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The researchers have also compared demographic and substance-using groups. The researchers said that in the studied period, heroin-related overdose deaths have almost quadrupled.

Gilead Sciences declines to $115.13 per Share

Gilead Sciences stock declined in the last trading session to $115.1. The stock has been recently under pressure as investors feel that the company has been overvalued. Many other pharmaceutical companies are working hard on developing a treatment for hepatitis C.

CASIS and MLSC Announce Grant Awards of $500,000 for Two Life Science Companies

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) have announced grant awards for two Massachusetts-based life science companies.
